Stena Fastigheter has three clear sustainability goals. The real estate company aims to create 1,000 new sustainable homes and renovate an equal number of existing ones by 2027. By that same year, tenant safety is to be improved. This is measured through the “Aktiv bo” customer survey, and by 2027, Stena Fastigheter’s safety index is to have risen to 82 percent. The third goal is to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2045. By 2030, the carbon footprint is to have been reduced by 55 percent compared to 2018. To achieve this, efficient energy use is key.



Algeno provides its heating control service to Stena Fastigheter to optimize energy use in the majority of its property portfolio. The service Algeno provides to Stena Fastigheter is based on artificial intelligence (AI) and optimizes the use of Stena Fastigheter’s district heating. – Our AI control system basically runs itself. What needs to be in place are functioning measurement systems and temperature sensors in the building, which are located in the substation and in the apartments, says Emil Gustavsson, one of the researchers who founded Algeno.

Algeno’s predictive control of heating systems takes into account various factors, such as weather forecasts, indoor temperature, and the building’s energy consumption patterns, to optimize energy consumption for Stena Fastigheter. This ensures that the right temperature is delivered to the property at the right time, minimizing heat loss and maximizing comfort for occupants.

A key factor in the project’s success is that Stena Fastigheter maintains transparency in its digital infrastructure. This enables autonomy over the systems, where Stena Fastigheter gains insight, knowledge, and control over its data.
