Following a question from ÖBO, the Chalmers algorithm was born
From research to the future of property management
Algeno was founded on a simple observation: most buildings are still controlled with systems that are reactive and difficult to overview. This leads to unstable indoor environments, unnecessary waste of energy and a high workload for operating organizations. We saw that the problem wasn't lack of data, it was lack of governance that understands how a building behaves over time.
Grounded in Mathematics and Real Operations
The journey began in 2017 with a research project between ÖrebroBostäder (ÖBO) and Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre (FCC). The mission was to develop a mathematical model that could optimise the heating control in real life. With a background in mathematical modeling, control engineering and AI, we built a solution that continuously learns the thermal properties of each unique property. Today, our models are individually adapted for each building and optimize control every 10 minutes. The goal is predictable results: the right temperature with the least possible energy input.
Technology that Empowers People
But Algeno is more than just algorithms. We have developed our platform in close cooperation with experienced operating organizations. For us, it is crucial that the technology is transparent and easy to understand — property owners should have full access to their data, not guess what the systems are doing. Working with open infrastructure and APIs, Algeno integrates seamlessly with existing systems. The fact that we are scaling up the technology together with partners like Stena Fastigheter is proof that our method creates stable results in large real estate portfolios.

From research to the future of property management
2017
First contact and project starts
Research projects are initiated with ÖrebroBostäder and Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre to develop mathematical models for optimised heat management.
2019
Theory becomes practical governance
The first subcentral is connected. We introduce heat optimization that continuously learns the behavior of each unique building.
2020
National validation and research support
The Swedish Energy Agency funds a collaboration project with Chalmers and Göteborg Energi, confirming the potential of the technology.
2022
Scalability in large real estate portfolios
Cooperation with Stena Fastigheter begins. The focus shifts to creating predictable performance across portfolios through the Algeno Heating Control service.
2023
Algeno AB is founded
The company was founded by Emil Gustavsson (PhD), Mats Jirstrand (PhD) and Magnus Önnheim (PhD) to meet the demand for digital optimization services.
