Helsingborgshem evaluated Algeno during the 2024/2025 heating season through a pilot project. The results of the project indicate a more consistent indoor climate, lower energy consumption, and a better understanding of the properties thanks to clear data visualization. This is in comparison with twin properties where Algeno’s control system had not yet been implemented.
Lower energy consumption, a more stable indoor climate, and improved operational efficiency.

Helsingborgshem decided to evaluate Algeno’s service through a pilot project during the 2024/2025 heating season. The hope was to stabilize the indoor climate and manage apartment temperatures more effectively—thereby optimizing energy use.

A key advantage of Algeno over traditional heating control is its proactive approach. Instead of relying solely on outdoor temperature, Algeno takes into account multiple parameters, such as weather forecasts and how the building’s structure retains or releases heat. In this way, the heating system continuously adapts to future conditions.
– Now we can make forecasts in a completely different way. “In one of our most problematic buildings, we previously experienced significant temperature fluctuations. Now the difference is half a degree, compared to the previous two degrees between peaks and troughs,” says Joel Sandblom, operations engineer at Helsingborgshem AB.
The pilot project yielded several benefits. One of these, according to Sandblom, is the ability to manage apartment temperatures more efficiently in order to optimize energy use.
– We feel confident lowering the temperature when we see that we’re still maintaining a consistent level. If we’d used the old system, the temperature drops would have been too steep.” This provides the confidence to save energy without compromising on the comfort we promise. The data generated about the properties is also valuable. The visualization provides clear indications, for example, if a building is poorly calibrated. In addition, the tool is a great way to gain an overview and deeper control over the property portfolio.
– We can analyze more intelligently and take the right actions. It’s a tool for further energy savings. The visualized data can also reveal specific problems at the apartment level, allowing measures to be targeted more precisely instead of adjusting the temperature for the entire building.
– If we see that a particular apartment has an unusually high temperature, it may be because a radiator thermostat isn’t working properly. This data provides us with important insights and helps us act effectively, Sandblom points out. When it comes to energy savings, it is difficult to make a fair comparison with previous years, as the past late fall and winter have required higher heating usage. However, there is a clear difference compared to the twin property against which the pilot project is measured.
– The difference between the two properties is between seven and twelve percent. But we need more data for a more accurate assessment, concludes Joel Sandblom.

Algeno makes it cost-effective to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. We do this by providing AI-based heating control for buildings, where Algeno’s service optimizes energy consumption, reduces heating costs, and ensures a consistent and predictable indoor climate. The service is cloud-based and gives property owners full control over their property portfolio. Over 2,500 buildings are already connected to the system, and over 2 million sensor readings are collected every day.

Algeno is designed for property owners who want to reduce energy costs and their environmental impact without replacing existing systems. Get in touch, and we’ll discuss how it would work for your portfolio—based on your technical requirements.
